“Things we don’t talk about” is a theatre project that using intimate and emotional stories is aiming to tackle societal issues that are silenced and avoided.
The text of the performance is based on actors personal monologues, anonymous stories that were gathered from an online questionnaire, as well as documentary material from the media. The performance focuses on the deep-rooted patriarchal structure that has been shaping our society for centuries, the religious influence, sexual abuse, discrimination and the psychological issues that the individuals are facing on regular basis.
In a tragicomic manner the team is criticizing the Balkans patriarchal milieu, and at the same time provokes a discussion for the necessity of social change. The audience will be drawn to a variety of different people’s personal memory lanes filled with pain, trauma, fear as well as happy moments in life.
The authentic testimonies, the intimacy and the courage to be exposed are the main components of this theatre project.
“The things we don’t talk about” is produced by WONDERLAND THEATRE, with the co-production of Macedonian National Theatre. The project is funded by The Swiss Embassy in the Republic of North Macedonia and supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of North Macedonia.
